Oscar Don't Live in America


For those who missed the 2009 Oscars, a synopsis. (Please notice that no attempt has been made to judge the abilities (or lack there of) of the actors or actresses. Nor has judgment been made on the quality, social or entertainment value of the honored films. No animals have been harmed in the writing of this synopsis.)

The Oscar Awards Show was hosted by an Australian actor/singer/dancer and included the following awards:

Best Film –About Indian slums, featuring Indian kids and actors
Best Director – British
Best Cinematographer - Indian
Best Music – Indian
Best Actor – An American, best known for a “volatile personality”
(His acceptance speech was about his personal and political views)
Best Actress – British
Best Supporting Actor – Dead Australian (“accidental overdose”)
Best Supporting Actress –Spanish
Best Director – British
Best Animated Film – Another politically correct Disney film
Best Animated Short Film – French
Best Male Lead (Independent Film) – A boxer, turned sexy, but self-destructive actor...

Best Cinematography (Independent Film) – French
Best Screenplay – About an assassinated gay politician
Best Sound Editing – About a “dark” comic book character
Best Documentary Film – About a French high-wire walker
Best Documentary Short Film – About an Indian girl with a birth defect
Best Live Action Short Film – a German film about the Holocaust

Commentary: Aside from tradition, why was this show held in Hollywood? Maybe it’s just me, but has the movie industry has been “off shored” along with the auto and steel industries? Enough of this free trade stuff. We’re loosing jobs here people! Apparently we can’t even find a competent American to host the show.

Strangely, bad economic times are good for the box office. So, thank Goodness for the current recession and political landscape! Some bail-out money would really help too (if it isn’t already hidden in “the package”.) Without help, the next Oscars might be held in London or Mumbai. That’s how I see it, but I am,
